What is the Summer Rock Camp?

Open to students ages 8–18, campers will learn songs based on the week’s theme (e.g. 80s, 90s, etc.) through a mix of private and group lessons. Throughout the week, students will collaborate on creative band names, design posters, and prepare for the grand finale: a Friday concert where they’ll showcase their hard work!

The goals of the Rock Camp are similar to our year-round Rock Program: teach kids how to play music together, to listen to each other, and to be accountable to their fellow musicians... all while having a blast doing it! We do this through the process of building, rehearsing, and performing a rock show.

How It Works

Students in each session work together on their rock show, consisting of a setlist of songs. The setlist is determined by the teacher and often follows a theme (a tribute to a certain band, best of X decade, roots of rock, etc.)

Multiple students per instrument may be in the same session. Different combinations of students may play on different songs. This is  actually the ideal scenario, as it enables students to learn from and help each other, teaches them the value of listening and supporting other musicians, and allows for a wider variety and greater number of songs in the setlist.

Just like a stage play or theater production, students will be expected to:

1) Learn their parts

2) Share the spotlight

and 3) Support their fellow musicians

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will every student play on every song?

A: Not necessarily. A critical tenet of the program is learning to listen, support, and learn from other musicians. Plus, varying the configuration of students per song allows for a wider variety and greater number of songs to be in the setlist.

Q: Is there a limit to the number of students per session?

A: Yes, we cap each session at 15 students.

Q: Can anyone attend the Rock Camp?

A: Yes, but we recommend that students have taken music lessons (instrumental or voice) for at least 6 months

Q: Where do I register?

A: You can register online here!
